Small businesses could see some major operational changes within the next five years due to the development and implementation of futuristic technologies within offices, according to predictions found in IBM's Five Innovations That Will Change Our Lives in the Next Five Years report.
According to the report, the way batteries are used and operate will change over the next five years. Batteries will last up to 10 times longer because they will begin breathing air to power electronics. Some devices will no longer require the use of a battery at all. Such a change will increase a company's productivity, because they will no longer have to wait to charge electronics to make calls or send emails.
Another futuristic change will be a major upgrade to video chat with the implementation of 3-D interfaces. A colleague's 3-D image will be projected directly into an office via services similar to Skype, according to IBM. The technology will not be limited just to computers, either. Consumers can expect to see it included on smartphones and other mobile devices.
