Twenty-somethings will soon be leading the way among entrepreneurs and small businesses, according to a survey conducted by Employers.
The survey found that 46 percent of Generation Y, or those ages 18 to 25, expressed a strong desire to open their own business in the next five years. In fact, 8 percent have already started their own businesses.
Additionally, 21 percent of the Baby Boomer generation, or those ages 46 to 65, plan to open a business within the next five years and 4 percent of the Silent Generation, or those over 66-years-old, plan on launching their own venture.
Most of the Generation Y and X respondents want to open their companies and interact online, the source said.
As a result, 70 percent of Generation Y feels it's important for a company to be technologically savvy and 67 percent already use social media platforms. The majority of the 18 to 25 demographic felt that online quoting, online customer service, online policy management and online payments were important aspects of any company's success.
