A recent report indicates that small businesses may see more of a benefit from social media marketing than other, more traditional efforts.
Social Media Examiner's 2011 Social Media Marketing Industry Report surveyed 3,342 marketers on their experiences with social platforms, and 90 percent indicated that the opportunities created via social were important to their companies.
"Like magpies, marketers tend to be attracted to glittering new tools, but the study showed that four dominated the toolkits of marketers: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and blogs. Facebook eclipsed Twitter in this year’s study, while MySpace has fallen off the radar - 81 percent of marketers have benched it completely," the website Business News Daily reported.
Although small businesses are finding success with social media, they reported one challenge inherent of the channel, particularly - that measuring the success rate is difficult. It is notoriously tricky to determine the return on investment of social media and marketers are still seeking guidance on monitoring, measuring and tracking this within their social media marketing efforts.
Regardless, social media marketing is still an increasingly popular marketing tool, with 88 percent of marketers reporting an improvement in business exposure and 72 percent claiming to see better traffic and more subscribers.
